Pilates: More Than Just Exercise

Pilates is not only a method of exercise, but also the name of the visionary who created it—Joseph Pilates. Inspired by the movement of the spine in both people and animals, Pilates developed a series of exercises and specialized equipment designed to improve posture, strength, and overall body efficiency. His method, which emphasizes stretch, strength, and control, was grounded in principles that promote healthy, functional movement. Through his books, including Return to Life and Your Health, Pilates continues to influence modern fitness. When it came time to pass on his work, Joseph chose Romana Kryzanowska to carry forward his legacy, ensuring the method would endure for generations.

About Romana's Pilates

.

Romana Kryzanowska, a gifted and knowledgeable movement expert, developed a teacher training program that continues to inspire Pilates instructors worldwide. Known for her warmth, kindness, and respect, Romana instilled in her students a deep dedication to the integrity and purpose of the Pilates method. Romana’s Pilates nurtures a thoughtful, intentional approach to movement, using the original teaching tools created by Joseph Pilates himself. These tools include a series of specific exercises performed across a variety of apparatus, with the reformer being the most well-known. However, the full breadth of Pilates work is explored through a wide range of Pilates inventions. Romana’s Pilates teachers are entrusted with the responsibility to teach with a critical eye, progressing their students through the dynamic and evolving sequence of exercises, ensuring that each individual’s practice evolves to its fullest potential.
